65,000-Ton Oil Refinery and Processing Structures in Algeria: Heavy Load Support and Fire-Resistant Design
Engineered with thick-walled steel columns and heavy cross-bracing to securely support the substantial weight of multi-level distillation units.

Project Overview
Located in the arid zones of Algeria, this refinery expansion provides the necessary framework for heavy hydrocarbon processing. Operators manage complex schedules and strict safety regulations. They face specific challenges: ensuring structures support the immense weight of distillation columns, applying reliable fireproofing to mitigate hydrocarbon fire risks, and protecting steel from abrasive Saharan sand. Shijie supplied a robust steel framing system to meet these requirements. We engineered heavy-duty rigid steel frames to carry multi-tiered processing units. Critical columns were treated with intumescent fire-resistant coatings to comply with petrochemical safety codes. Utilizing a modular, pre-bolted fabrication strategy, our teams erected the facilities efficiently, reducing on-site welding in the desert heat. Completing the framework 35 days early provided a reliable base for subsequent equipment installation and piping integration.

Robust Load Integrity
Engineered with thick-walled steel columns and heavy cross-bracing to securely support the substantial weight of multi-level distillation units.
Advanced Fire Protection
Critical load-bearing structures are coated with an industrial-grade intumescent fireproofing system, ensuring stability during thermal events.
Desert Weather Shielding
A durable epoxy topcoat protects the steel framework from the abrasive effects of windblown Saharan sand, maintaining long-term integrity.
Controlled Site Assembly
A modular construction approach utilizing pre-drilled bolted connections reduced reliance on field welding, facilitating safer erection.
Turning Site Challenges into Engineered Certainty
Proven technical interventions to keep your project on spec, on budget, and on schedule
Heavy refining equipment places immense stress on the supporting structural infrastructure.
Deployed multi-tiered heavy moment frames to safely distribute high-tonnage loads to the foundations.
Petrochemical processing requires strict fire safety measures to prevent structural collapse.
Applied specialized fire-resistant coatings to critical steel members, increasing the fire endurance rating.
Expanding a refining facility in the Algerian desert requires practical infrastructure. Operating here means we must carefully manage structural durability and stringent petrochemical safety codes. Our priority is ensuring processing units are supported securely without operational delays. Shijie delivered a capable steel framework that met our specifications. Looking across the processing zones, the heavy steel structures handle the multi-tiered equipment loads with clear stability. Their design addressed our fire safety requirements by integrating fire-resistant coatings directly onto the members. The epoxy finish has held up well against the abrasive sandstorms. By manufacturing components accurately and using a bolted assembly method, they allowed our contractors to build safely without excessive welding in the heat. Finishing 35 days early gave our mechanical teams the time needed for piping integration. They are a dependable partner.
