60,000 sqm Vanguard Modular Remote Workforce Camp in Saudi Arabia: Aramco-Standard Sandstorm Airtightness, +55°C Thermal Isolation, and Fast-Track Mobilization Handover
Multi-tiered modular steel frames are integrated with continuous multi-lip EPDM compression gaskets and double-rabbet insulated panels, sealing out fine desert silica dust even under hurricane-force Shamal sandstorms.

Project Overview
Located deep in the harsh desert interior of Saudi Arabia, this mega modular workforce camp houses thousands of front-line extraction personnel, drilling engineers, and EPC operations crews for a major mining and petrochemical mega-project. For the EPC infrastructure management and client, the camp handover date was directly tied to expensive exploration timelines. In the oil, gas, and mineral sector, exploratory drilling rigs and massive processing machinery cannot mobilize until the workforce camp obtains strict safety and habitability certification from authorities like Saudi Aramco. Every single day of handover delay triggers over $80,000 in idle machinery standby penalties and contract claims.
The primary psychological and technical stress centered on the extreme desert climate and remoteness of the site. In the Arabian desert, afternoon temperatures exceed +55°C, dropping near freezing at night, while violent "Shamal" sandstorms lash the site with abrasive dust. If modular accommodation units suffer from poor thermal breaks or weak door-and-window seals, sand penetrates the rooms, fine dust clogs HVAC filters, and shift workers cannot rest. Exhausted crews risk life-threatening safety incidents on active extraction sites. Compounding this, the desert interior is hundreds of kilometers away from industrial machine shops; if modular steel frames or roof trusses arrived with misaligned bolt holes, workers using cutting torches aloft would burn anti-corrosion coatings and trigger severe safety violations.
Shijie Heavy Industry engineered an integrated, factory-finished modular structural steel solution. Utilizing standardized two-story heavy steel structural frames and high-density polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulated panels, Shijie integrated continuous EPDM multi-lip sealing gaskets to ensure grade-8 sandstorm impermeability. The flat roof structures were pre-engineered with double-tier ventilated roof trusses, designed to carry heavy solar photovoltaic arrays and high-capacity rooftop HVAC package units to block brutal radiant heat. Shipped in color-coded flat-pack container modules with waterproof QR codes synchronized with crane rigging zones, all 6,500 tons of structural steel bolted together aloft with 100% first-pass accuracy and zero field torch-cutting. The camp passed international habitability and fire audits on its very first inspection, completing the project 25 days ahead of the mobilization deadline.

Aramco-Standard Sandstorm Hermetic Seal
Multi-tiered modular steel frames are integrated with continuous multi-lip EPDM compression gaskets and double-rabbet insulated panels, sealing out fine desert silica dust even under hurricane-force Shamal sandstorms.
+55°C Solar-Ready Double-Tier Roof Shield
Engineered elevated secondary roof trusses that create an active convective air buffer above living modules, offsetting solar thermal radiation while seamlessly supporting heavy photovoltaic panels and HVAC package units.
Acoustic & Fire-Safe Living Compartmentalization
Structural steel floor and wall cassettes are fitted with non-combustible mineral wool and acoustic decoupling clips, suppressing equipment noise below 40 dB(A) to ensure restful sleep for 24-hour rotating shifts.
Desert-Ready 100% Bolted Rapid Assembly
Components were manufactured with high-precision multi-axis CNC machines and embedded with weatherproof QR labels, allowing local rigging teams to erect multi-building blocks with zero field modifications or torch cutting.
Turning Site Challenges into Engineered Certainty
Proven technical interventions to keep your project on spec, on budget, and on schedule
Desert heat passes +55°C; solar radiation bleeds into steel framing, overburdening HVAC units and causing power brownouts.
Configured a secondary structural solar-shading roof frame with integrated thermal break pads, creating a natural ventilated exhaust cavity.
Violent Shamal sandstorms force fine dust into module gaps; dust ingress clogs electrical panels and suffocates living quarters.
Engineered pre-installed EPDM multi-chamber compression gaskets and interlocking double-seal tongue-and-groove joint cassettes.
Remote desert location: no machine shops within 300km; mismatched holes or warped frames would cause massive site delays.
Multi-axis CNC-drilled all bolt holes within ± 0.5mm, color-coding 3D container packs to enable 100% field bolting with zero cuts.
In the Saudi desert, delayed camp handover means massive idle rig standby fees, while extreme heat and sandstorms make cheap cabins unlivable. Shijie delivered absolute excellence: 60,000 sqm of modular steel bolted aloft with zero torch cuts, holding 100% dust-tight and whisper-quiet in +55°C heat. Passing Aramco audits 25 days early secured our mobilization flawlessly.
