60,000 sqm Vanguard Labor Camp in Indonesia: Modular Assembly and Tropical Adaptation

Galvanized steel frames and polyurethane insulation panels effectively resist humidity and prevent rust in the damp rainforest environment.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Overview

Located in the dense rainforests of Indonesia, this 60,000 sqm labor camp provides essential housing for frontline mining and oil workers. Operating in remote tropical environments presents logistical and environmental challenges. Project managers must transport materials through difficult terrain and build quickly despite heavy seasonal rainfall. Prolonged construction delays operations. Shijie provided a practical modular flat-pack housing solution. We utilized galvanized steel structures to prevent rust in the high-humidity environment. The modular units were transported efficiently and assembled on-site using bolted connections, bypassing the need for wet concrete work that is often hindered by rain. Elevated foundations were implemented to protect living quarters from surface water. Completing the camp 35 days ahead of schedule allowed the workforce to settle in safely and begin extraction activities on time.

01

Tropical Moisture Resistance

Galvanized steel frames and polyurethane insulation panels effectively resist humidity and prevent rust in the damp rainforest environment.

02

Efficient Jungle Logistics

The flat-pack design minimizes shipping volume, enabling easier transport through narrow, unpaved access roads.

03

Rain-Proof Assembly

A fully bolted dry assembly process allowed construction to proceed steadily without relying on concrete curing, which is vulnerable to heavy rainfall.

04

Elevated Protection

Modules are installed on raised foundations, protecting the living spaces from mud and surface water runoff during the monsoon season.

THE CHALLENGE

Transporting building materials into remote rainforests is constrained by poor road conditions and limited access.

SJ ENGINEERED SOLUTION

Supplied flat-pack modular units to maximize truckload efficiency and simplify delivery to the remote site.

THE CHALLENGE

Frequent tropical downpours disrupt traditional construction and threaten to flood worker accommodations.

CLIENT VOICE

Establishing a labor camp in the Indonesian rainforest requires practical logistics. Heavy rain frequently stops standard construction, and getting materials here is difficult. Shijie provided a housing solution that fit our site conditions. Walking through the camp, the functional design of the multi-story units is clear. The flat-pack modules were easy to transport over our access roads. By using a bolted assembly system, our teams erected the units quickly without waiting for dry weather to pour concrete. The galvanized frames and elevated bases are handling the humidity and surface water well. Taking over the facility 35 days early allowed our personnel to mobilize and start site preparations on schedule. They are a practical engineering partner.
