120,000 sqm EV Assembly Plant in South Africa: Structural Adaptability and Logistics

Engineered with roof trusses to safely bear the dynamic weight of continuous overhead car conveyors and equipment.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Overview

Located in South Africa, this 120,000 sqm complex supports the regional transition to EV manufacturing. Automakers operate on strict schedules, and facility delays impact production targets. Managers face specific engineering challenges: ensuring roofs bear the dynamic loads of overhead conveyors, integrating loading docks for battery logistics, and preventing dust from contaminating active paint shops. Shijie Heavy Industry addressed these requirements with a high-capacity steel truss system. We integrated a high-density bay of loading docks to streamline inbound logistics for heavy battery packs. Deep-web trusses were deployed to support suspended loads. The battery zone features specialized fire-resistant coatings to meet safety codes. Inside, a wide column-free grid provides flexibility for automated guided vehicle routing. Utilizing a pre-engineered bolted assembly method, teams avoided on-site welding and minimized dust. Completing the structure 45 days early provided a reliable foundation for setting up production.

CLIENT VOICE

Establishing an EV line in South Africa requires dependable infrastructure. Deflecting conveyors can stall welding lines. Handling batteries also demands efficient logistics. Shijie provided a solid solution. The layout is optimized for operational efficiency. Their trusses carry suspended car bodies steadily, showing excellent structural integrity. The loading docks have smoothed our supply chain intake. By utilizing a bolted assembly, they erected this structure without generating dust that could compromise our nearby paint shop. Receiving the facility 45 days early gave us the buffer to set up equipment on time. They are a dependable partner.
