Slaughter & Processing Plant Steel Structures
Steel structures for abattoirs, slaughterhouses and meat processing plants: portal frames with washable insulated panels, drainage falls designed in and cold rooms with thermal-break connections, fabricated under EN 1090-2 EXC2. The process design stays with your consultant; we build the structure to it.
What Meat Processing Projects Demand From the Building
Washdown, cold rooms and cleaning chemicals are harder on a building than most industrial uses.
Daily washdown attacks walls and floors
Washable insulated panels with a supplier-declared fire class and slab falls set by your process consultant; the frame and envelope are detailed to that hygiene plan, with rainwater goods sized separately for the local rainfall.
Chilling and cold rooms inside the same building
Insulated panels selected to the target room temperature and U-value, thermal-break connections and floor slab details for low temperatures, all detailed with the frame rather than added by a second supplier.
Cleaning chemicals corrode the steel
ISO 12944 C4–C5 coating systems or hot-dip galvanising for exposed steel in wet and chemical zones, with dry film thickness recorded; the category follows the cleaning regime your consultant specifies.
Columns that cut across the process flow
Portal or multi-span frames with column lines set to the lairage, slaughter, chilling and cutting sequence drawn by your process consultant, so the flow is not bent around the structure.
How Your Project Is Built
Three phases from the first drawing to handover. Move over a phase to see what happens in it and what you receive at the end of it.
Engineering & Foundation
The structure is sized in a 3D BIM model before any steel is cut. While members are fabricated in the factory, earthworks and independent foundations are poured on site in parallel from the anchor bolt templates we ship first.

- Anchor bolt templates shipped first
- Foundations poured in parallel with fabrication
Fabrication & Erection
Columns, beams and trusses are CNC-cut, welded, tested and trial-assembled in the yard, then shipped in erection sequence. On site the frame is bolted from marked members with the erection drawings and our remote or on-site guidance.

Envelope & Handover
Cladding, insulation, openings and rainwater goods close the building; dimensional and coating records are handed over with the as-built drawings and the certificate package.

Certifications & Compliance
Every shipment leaves with the documents an auditor asks for. Scroll the row and open any certificate at full size.
Technical Parameters
What the building is sized from, and what is fixed before fabrication.
| Parameter | What it is set from |
|---|---|
| Building format | Portal or multi-span frames with column lines set to the process flow from your consultant |
| Hygiene envelope | Washable insulated panels with supplier-declared U-value and fire class; rainwater goods sized for the local rainfall; process drainage per your consultant |
| Cold rooms | Insulated panels to the target room temperature and U-value, thermal-break connections and low-temperature slab details |
| Corrosion protection | ISO 12944 C4–C5 coating or hot-dip galvanising for wet and chemical zones, DFT recorded |
| Site loads | Wind, snow and seismic loads calculated for the site location to the design code your project specifies |
| Execution class | EN 1090-2 EXC2 (certificate 2787-CPR-01627) |
| Lead time | 40 to 50 days for a typical single-building portal frame scope: 1–2 weeks to shop drawings for your approval, then 4–5 weeks for fabrication, coating and loading; larger or multi-building projects are phased by building |
| Documentation | MTRs, WPS/PQR, welder certificates, NDT and DFT reports, erection drawings and the certificate package with every shipment |
Recommended Product Systems
The structural systems we fabricate most often for this kind of project. Each opens the product page with sub-systems, parameters and FAQ.
Multi-storey steel buildings from one fabricator: thick-web H and box columns, cruciform columns, steel floor beams, composite decking and stairs for commercial and industrial frames, with embedded parts and anchor bolts shipped ahead of the steel.
Pre-engineered buildings on a steel portal frame, the rigid frame building type of every PEB catalogue: tapered H-section primary frames, cold-formed purlins, bracing and anchor bolts detailed as one system for workshops, warehouses and agricultural halls.
Steel truss structures for long-span roofs: circular pipe trusses, square tube trusses, angle steel trusses and H- or I-beam trusses fabricated as roof truss systems for terminals, stations, industrial halls and exhibition centres.
Building envelope systems quoted with the steel frame: roof and wall cladding, insulation and waterproofing, industrial doors, windows, louvers and ventilators, gutters and downspouts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you design the slaughter line and process rooms?
No. Process design, HACCP zoning and equipment layout stay with your consultant; we build the structure and envelope to that design and detail column lines, falls and openings to it.
Which panels do you use in washdown areas?
Washable insulated panels with a supplier-declared fire class and the U-value the room needs; the panel type follows the zone and cleaning regime your consultant specifies.
Can chilling rooms and freezers be inside the same frame?
Yes. Cold rooms are built with insulated panels to the target temperature, thermal-break connections and low-temperature slab details, inside the same portal frame as the processing halls.
How do you protect steel from cleaning chemicals?
ISO 12944 C4–C5 coating systems or hot-dip galvanising for exposed steel in wet and chemical zones, with dry film thickness recorded per member.
Do you supply the drainage and gutters?
Rainwater goods are supplied with the envelope and sized for the local rainfall; internal process drainage stays with your civil and process design.
What is a realistic lead time?
For a single-building portal frame scope the standard cycle is 40 to 50 days: 1–2 weeks to shop drawings for your approval, then 4–5 weeks for fabrication, coating and loading; larger projects are phased by building.
